Anderson Silva On Forrest Griffin & Vitor Belfort
Friday, 26 June 2009 02:41

With the recent rumours that UFC President Dana White is making a valiant effort to sign former UFC champion Vitor Belfort, the MMA world is waiting in anticipation of a potential confrontation with current UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

Silva, speaking with Portal Das Lutas, had this to say about the potential confrontation:

“I’m still just light training, but I’m training.  I’m in Curitiba, doing my adaptation training and taking it slow.  Everyone talks and everyone wants to beat the champion.  The thing is to keep training and just waiting to see what happens.  Regardless of any decision made.  I’m ready to fight and defend my title.  But let’s wait and see.  I didn’t know about those comments, this is news to me.  Let’s wait and see.  I’m not worried about it.  Right now I’m just thinking about my fight with Forrest.”

Silva, who is making his weight transition to 205 lbs, is set to face former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin.  Fighting in un-chartered territories is always dangerous if his opponent wasn’t dangerous enough.

Diego “Nightmare” Sanchez Next In Line For Title Shot
Monday, 22 June 2009 02:48

The man known as “The Nightmare”, Diego Sanchez is quickly moving up the rankings at 155 lbs.  With his win Saturday over Glay Guida, it surely puts him into title contention…or does it?  According to Sanchez, if you do the math, he’s the one who is next in line to face the winner of BJ Penn and Kenny Florian.

Speaking with MMA Weekly, Sanchez had this to say:

“Going in and beating two of the top contenders at 155 [Clay Guida, Joe Stevenson], I think I’m the number one guy.  The only other person is Gray Maynard and Gray Maynard has a win over Frankie Edgar, who has a win over Sean Sherk, but also, people don’t forget, Nate Diaz has a win over Gray Maynard on The Ultimate Fighter and Guida has a win over Nate Diaz, so if you really do the math, it puts me as number one conteder.  Of course if Kenny Florian pulled off a victory, that’s a big fight for UFC, mutch-up the orginal Ultimate Fighter season one finale…that’s a guy that I went in the ring and dominated, that’s motivation for me to come down to 155.”

It would appear that Diego is next in line for a title shot; although, with the up and downs and uncertainties of mixed martial arts, nothing is ever certain except that the 155 lbs division just keeps getting tougher.
