Machida Pulls Off The Win With Skepticism It’s been said many times before and is a statement that stands its ground with the fight community, In order to be the champ you gotta beat the champ. Unfortunately for Shogun at UFC 104, Nelson Hamilton, Cecil Peoples & Marcos Rosales all scored this fight in favor of Machida although the fans were in total shock, booing Machida and cheering for Shogun. A similar case was back at UFC 86 when Quinton Rampage Jackson took on Forrest Griffin but in this fight the cards were dealt the opposite way. In a recent interview with MMABAY, Rampage spoke about the Machida fight and the similarities to his fight with Forrest, “Everybody knew when I fought Forrest, that wasn’t me. Everybody knew I had a bunch of injuries after I fought Dan Henderson and that I couldn’t train. I got real busy after I became the undisputed champion and things happen and I didn’t train, so when I finally started training for Forrest it was too late. I had a lot of weight to lose.”“I felt like I beat him that night and I have the judges to thank for that costing me my belt. I watched the fights at the weekend and heard someone say, ‘To win the title you gotta BEAT the champ’. Well that didn’t happen when I fought Forrest.” With this said, Rampage needs to come back to face Griffin and Machida definitely needs to give Shogun another run for his money. |
